The Sharks hosted the New Jersey Titans in a Wednesday matinee matchup that turned into a nail-biter from start to finish.
The Titans struck first in the opening period, taking an early lead. Midway through the second, Sharks captain Jay Montgomery evened things up with a beautiful shot from the point that sailed through traffic and over the netminder’s blocker. The two teams battled hard through the rest of the period, heading into the second intermission tied 1-1.
Montgomery struck again in the third, finding the back of the net for his second goal of the game, but the Titans quickly answered back to tie it up. With the score knotted at two after regulation, the game headed to overtime.
With less than 20 seconds left in OT, the Sharks broke out on an odd-man rush. Jace Tourtillott carried the puck down the right wing and fired a shot that was kicked out by the Titans’ goaltender. Brendan Dalton was right there to scoop up the rebound and bury it with 17.4 seconds remaining, sealing a thrilling overtime win for the Sharks. Nicklas Walker was solid in net stopping 34 of 36 shots.
The Sharks are now 6-5 on the season.
The Sharks are headed to western New York this weekend in a two-game homestand against the Buzz Hockey Club in Elmira, NY. The two clubs faceoff on Friday, October 24th, and Saturday, October 25th, both at 3:00pm. Catch all the action on NATV.
