Sharks split with Sea Captains in Long Beach

Jan 20, 2026

The Sharks were back home in Long Beach for a two-game series with the Sea Captains and captured 3 points to keep them atop of the East in the standings.

On Saturday, the Sea Captains got on the board first, taking a two-goal lead into the third period, but the Sharks made an offensive push and scored three straight goals.  Eli McCarthy kicked off the scoring for the Sharks with a beautiful one-timer off a pass from Sam Barnard.  Less than two minutes later, James Steinberg sniped one from the point to tie the game at two.  Spencer Nicoloff ripped one past the Sea Captains’ netminder to give the Sharks the lead, but the Sea Captains tied it up late in the third to force overtime.  The Sharks got caught and gave up a two-on-one, which found the back of the net to give the Sea Captains a 4-3 victory in overtime.

The Sharks came out strong on Sunday, getting on the board first with a hard-fought rebound goal by Caden Shafer.  There was no scoring in the second, but one for the highlight reel was an amazing blocker save by Nicklas Walker to keep the Sea Captains off the board.   Halfway through the third, Sean Bailey added to the Sharks’ lead with a beautiful shot off the faceoff.  The Sea Captains cut the Sharks’ lead in half and then pulled their goalie for an extra attacker, but Sean Bailey capitalized and scored an empty net goal to secure a 3-1 victory for the Sharks.

The Sharks are off next weekend and will be back in action on Wednesday, January 28th, when they head to New Jersey to take on the Titans.  Puck drop is at 1:00pm.  Catch all the action on NATV.
